Health, Development & School

The province specifically identifies education, developmental needs, general health, mental health and therapy as areas where families may need support.

Adoption, Identity & Culture
- Adoption Council of Ontario – Adoptee Supports — Resources addressing adoption identity, loss and grief, search and reunion and the experiences of adopted people. Importantly, ACO includes information and programming specifically for adoptees, rather than speaking only to adoptive parents.
- Pact – Adoption & Race Resources — This is one I’d definitely consider adding. Pact has a substantial library covering race and adoption, transracial adoption, adoptee identity, talking about adoption, birth parents, siblings, schools and trauma informed parenting. Much of its material incorporates adult-adoptee and first/birthparent perspectives.

Adoptee & Family Support
- Adoption Council of Ontario – Support & Connections —ACO currently offers parent support groups, youth networks and children’s sessions, adult-adoptee supports, birth/original family supports and a “Find a Professional” service.
- Adoption Council of Ontario – Adoptee Supports & Connections — Particularly good for this page because it includes an Adult Adoptee Network, youth groups and children’s hangouts, adoptee-created resources and information about search/reunion.
- Interwoven Connections — Another one I’d feature prominently for Ontario families. It provides free peer support, education, resources, advocacy and community connections for families formed through adoption, kinship and customary care. Families can also receive one-to-one peer support and assistance navigating education, healthcare and developmental services.
- Adoption Council of Ontario – Find a Professional — Useful when a family is looking for a professional with specific knowledge of adoption and permanency.
- C.A.S.E. – Center for Adoption Support and Education — Adoption-focused education, mental-health resources and support for adopted people and their families.
