AdopTALK & Learning
AdopTALK helps families prepare for the realities of adoptive parenting. Learn about how it supports the shift from process readiness to parenting readiness by focusing on the knowledge, reflection, and tools families need to support a child through transition, attachment, identity, and lifelong development.
What is AdopTALK?
AdopTALK is a mandatory adoption parenting workshop for applicants. It is designed to prepare adoptive parents for the challenges and responsibilities of becoming adoptive parents and to support proactive, positive parenting.
AdopTALK is currently offered virtually. Registration information is shared through the Events Calendar or through your Program Manager.
What Families Learn
AdopTALK covers topics that help families understand both the adoption process and the parenting realities that follow placement. The goal is to help families prepare for the child they may welcome, not just the documents and approvals required to complete the process.

Preparing for Acceptance Factors
Acceptance factors help families think through the child profile, needs, histories, and circumstances they are prepared to consider in a referral.
This may include health history, prenatal exposure, developmental needs, trauma history, sibling relationships, cultural considerations, unknown information, and long-term support needs.
These factors vary by country and referral. AdoptTALK, Program Managers, and medical or professional guidance can help families make informed, thoughtful decisions.
Learning Beyond the Workshop
Adoption learning continues after placement. As children grow, questions about identity, belonging, race, culture, family history, grief, and relationships may change. Parents may need different kinds of support at different stages.
The Children’s Bridge is continuing to strengthen learning opportunities, resources, events, and community supports for families and adoptees. Families are encouraged to stay connected and seek support as needs evolve.
