Thailand Adoption
Quick Links
Overview
The Children’s Bridge supports Canadian families pursuing adoption from Thailand through Thailand's regulated intercountry adoption process.
The Thailand program focuses on finding permanent families for children who are unable to remain in their family of origin and who are eligible for intercountry adoption.
Thailand program currently on hold to Ontario families.
Children & Adoption in Thailand
Children in need of intercountry adoption from Thailand vary in age, background, and needs. This may include older children, sibling groups, and children with identified medical, developmental, or other special needs.
Families should carefully consider the age and needs they feel prepared to support and be committed to helping their child maintain meaningful connections to their Thai culture, heritage, and identity throughout their life.
How it Works
Families begin by determining their eligibility and completing the required provincial adoption approvals, including a home study. Once approved, their adoption dossier is prepared and submitted to Thailand.
Families then wait to be considered for a child whose needs and circumstances are consistent with their adoption approval. When a child is proposed, the family receives available information to review before deciding whether they feel prepared to proceed.

Matching & Wait Times
Matching considers the needs of children awaiting adoption along with a family's eligibility, approval parameters, and openness.
There is no guaranteed timeline for receiving a child proposal. Timelines vary depending on the family's circumstances, the characteristics of children requiring adoptive families, and the matching and approval processes in Thailand.
Travel & Post-Adoption
Families should expect to travel to Thailand as part of the adoption and placement process. During their stay, families will meet their child, complete required appointments and processes, and begin their transition together.
After returning home, families are required to complete post-placement reporting and other adoption requirements in accordance with Thai and provincial requirements.
Is Thailand Right for Your Family?
Families considering Thailand must meet both provincial adoption requirements and Thailand's eligibility criteria.
Families should also be prepared for the realities of international adoption, including uncertain timelines, potentially limited information about a child's early history, and the possibility of medical, developmental, or other identified needs.
A commitment to supporting a child's Thai culture, heritage, identity, and adoption story is an important part of lifelong adoptive parenting.
